A card has two jobs: a short opening on the cover and a clear apology inside. Write the inside first so that the design supports a real acknowledgment. One card can address both parents if the same incident affected them together; otherwise separate notes may be more personal.

01

Draft the inside before choosing the cover

Include the action, the consequence you understand and the repair you will manage. This gives the card a clear purpose. If all the words concern how much you love your parents, check whether the actual mistake is missing. Affection can support the apology after the acknowledgment is understandable.

02

Use a simple, proportionate cover

A line such as “I want to acknowledge this properly” may suit a serious incident. A warmer cover can fit a minor oversight if that tone is welcome. Avoid a joking cover when the issue involves a repeated lie or broken confidence. The recipient should not need to decode the apology through decoration.

03

Address each parent accurately

Mom and Dad may have experienced the incident differently. You can include a shared opening and individual sentences, or create separate cards. Do not assume one parent will explain the message to the other. Use the family names you normally say, and avoid unnecessary details about other relatives.

04

Review the creator before entering personal details

Every creator button here opens the main SaySorry creator. Check its current styles, pricing and sharing controls there. This guide does not send or prefill your message automatically. Choose what information you are comfortable including and review the final wording before sharing it in a way your parent would welcome.

Choose one or two recipients accurately.

  3. 03

Select a readable cover and layout.

  4. 04

Review the creator’s current options before sharing.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Questions worth asking.

Should I use one card for both parents?

Use one when the same incident affected them together. Separate messages may be clearer when their experiences were different.

Does clicking Create Your Sorry send the card?

No. It opens the main creator. You still need to review its options and decide what to create and share.

A THOUGHTFUL NEXT STEP

You don’t need perfect words.
You need honest ones.

Take what is useful. Add your truth. Let your next actions support the apology.
